WINTER FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY IN HAMPSHIRE

Happy New Year!

I hope you have had a lovely Christmas spent with your family and friends and are looking forward to a great new year.

This time of year is always thought of by many as not a great time of the year for Lifestyle Family Portrait Photography, especially as January tends to be a very cold month. However many of my clients are still interested in having their family session during the winter months but are curious about how their photos will turn out. Will they still look as bright and as colourful at this time of year. I love photographing throughout our beautiful seasons as there is always interest and colour and the change in light during the winter months makes for some great photographs. The light outdoors in the winter can create some dramatic photos, great for back lighting and adding warmth especially on a clear sunny winters day.

If you are concerned that it maybe too cold for your family, I always advise to wrap up warm with plenty of layers containing different textures such as scarves, gloves, hats, fur-trimmed coats which will all look great and especially good for adding pops of colour in your winter lifestyle family portraits. As sunset is early during the winter at around 4:30pm, I normally recommend sessions to start in the morning around 10:30am up to 1pm, especially if it’s an overcast day as this will reduce the light even more.

If you have a young family and have a little baby then I normally advise on splitting your shoot. Having half of your session indoors at your home and then half outdoors will dramatically reduce the time you will be outdoors in the cold air, perfect if you have a baby or toddler. This will also give you a nice variety to your photos as well as making them more personal to you and its great to spend time with your family in your home. The outdoor location can always be outside in your garden or we can go for a walk in your local woods.

Lifestyle family portraits are just as achievable in the winter as the summer months and will look just as beautiful framed on the walls in your home.
